What You Should Know About the Linux Certification Exam

In all actuality, Linux is known as open source software and it was developed based on a collaboration of different individual’s efforts instead of it being created by a certain vendor. Because of this, there isn’t a vendor or a body that can be used to create one Linux certification exam. Instead, you have several different organizations that have stepped in and have created all of the Linux certification exams and programs so that all of the IT professionals could try to prove that they were indeed proficient with the Linux operating system.

In relationship to the Linux certification exam, it is offered by Red Hat, Novell, Computing Technology Industry Association and the Linux Professional Institute. The Linux professional institute is known to offer three different levels of Linux certification exams which range from basic, on to intermediate, and then advanced. Each individual level requires that two of the Linux certification exams be taken.

Currently, Novell offers two different levels of the Linux certification: The Certified Linux Engineer and the Certified Linux professional. On the other hand, Red Hat is known to provide four different levels of the Linux certification. First you have the Certified Technician by Red Hat that requires one Linux certification exam to be taken, then you have the Certified Engineer by Red Hat that requires on certification exam to be taken, then you have the Certified Architect by Red Hat which requires five Linux certification exams to be taken and last but not least you have the Certified Security Specialist by Red Hat which requires three exams be taken.

All of the training courses that are available for the Linux certification exam must be taken in person at the local computer and technical schools or you may choose to participate in a web based study that is self paced. In the event that you do your research online, you will be able to find several different training aids such as CDs/ DVDs and manuals. Online, you will also be able to participate in the mock certification tests so that you are able to tell whether or not you are truly prepared for the official certification exam for Linux.

It is known that the Linux Professional Institute is offering all of its exams through Prometrics which is a very popular and well-known testing service. All you have to do is log onto the prometrics website and then arrange for you to take the Linux certification exam at anytime that you are ready. In order to take the test, you are going to have to go in person to the testing site.

Prometrics is known to operate hundreds of different testing locations all around the world.
